CASE STUDY
Wonder Women
Young women, particularly those first in their families to attend university, often do not have access to programs that help them to build leadership skills. In addition to gender bias, they may face even larger hurdles to equal access for future leadership opportunities.
Hummingbirdrcc worked with the Joyce Ivy Foundation to create and facilitate a workshop on leadership for young women and: 1) discuss holistic leadership; 2) explore the Imposter Syndrome; 3) identify natural strengths; 4) build presence; and 5) experience networking.

Mindful Messaging
Public speaking remains one of the most feared activities. Yet the ability to effectively communicate and influence others remains one of the most critically important in today’s workplace. Young professionals are often taught off-the-shelf standard “dos and don’ts” of public speaking without an inside-out approach.
Hummingbirdrcc worked with Dartmouth College to design and teach young leaders to: 1) understand the role of mindfulness and nonverbal cues; and 2) the nuance of effective communication in small and large group settings.

Bold Branding
Asian Pacific Americans (APA) remain underrepresented in positions of leadership. Known as the “Bamboo Ceiling,” APAs often face stereotypes and misperceptions of “Asian values” as being countereffective to strong leadership.
Hummingbirdrcc worked with Western Carolina University to design and lead a workshop to: 1) explore the barriers facing Asian Pacific Americans in leadership; 2) understand how to leverage an asset-based approach to Western and Eastern value systems; and 3) create a personal brand for effective networking and communication.
CASE STUDY
International Indigeneity
Indigenous and Tribal institutions of higher education are often excluded from consideration in global education. International education often focuses on a Western-based model of “study abroad,” excluding historically underrepresented groups from the dialogue.
Hummingbirdrcc worked with the U.S. Department of Education and the American Indian Higher Education Consortium to: 1) explore the meaning of ‘global’ within and among indigenous communities; 2) assess global education initiatives within Tribally-Controlled Universities; and 3) explore opportunities and best practices for globally-minded collaboration and programming for historically underrepresented communities.
